- : Randolph, A(sa) Philip 1889-1979. American labor and civil rights leader. As founder of the activist magazine The Messenger (1917), and holding influential positions in both the AFL-CIO and the National Negro Congress, he campaigned for an end to racial discrimination in organized labor.
